Camargue Horses Experience
with Alexandra Martinez – Wildlife and Equine Photographer, Camargue
The Camargue is one of the few places in Europe where semi-wild horses still move in natural herds and open landscapes.
This experience is designed to offer photographers authentic, respectful access to these animals — with a focus on light, atmosphere, and natural behavior.
Each session is created in collaboration with local guardians and breeders who know the herds intimately.
Together, we select the right location, the right moment, and the right conditions.
Sunrise and sunset provide the atmosphere in which the Camargue horses reveal their true presence.
Depending on season and weather, the settings range from beach and marshland to shallow water.
Every detail is thoughtfully prepared: access, timing, light direction, and the safety of both photographers and horses.
This experience is suited for advanced amateurs and professionals who wish to work with intention, patience, and a clear visual direction.
It is not a staged spectacle — it is a guided encounter with one of the region’s most iconic animals.
Sessions are offered from March to July and from September to October, in limited availability.
Explore the Camargue Horses Experience:
Horses in the swamp
This session takes place in the shallow marshlands of the Camargue
Morning light creates a calm, diffused atmosphere that highlights structure, water, and the horses.
In this session, two to three experienced gardians guide the horses through the shallow marshlands of the Camargue.
The movement is natural, powerful, and perfectly coordinated with the light and the landscape.
Following my directions, the scene is timed to the exact moment when light, reflection, and composition align — creating authentic and dynamic images without artificial staging.
The session is ideal for photographers who want to capture the authentic presence of the Camargue horses in their natural habitat.
Horses at the beach
This session takes place on a private beach of the Camargue, in the warm light of early morning or late evening.
Under the guidance of experienced gardians, the horses move freely along the shoreline, sometimes through shallow water, sometimes across the open sand.
The focus is on movement, light, and space — the natural rhythm of the horses in contrast with the sea and sky.
Every detail, from positioning to timing, is planned precisely according to the light and weather to ensure clean compositions and natural behavior.
A classic Camargue experience that combines the strength of the horses with the beauty of the coastal landscape.
Stallions at the beach
This session takes place on a private stretch of coastline in the Camargue.
Here, the stallions interact naturally — playing, challenging each other, and showing their strength and hierarchy in an authentic way.
The focus is on movement, structure, and timing, capturing the interaction between horses, light, and sea.
Every detail is prepared in advance: the direction of light, the safety distance, and coordination with the guardians.
Ideal for photographers who want to create strong, expressive images of the Camargue horses in their most iconic setting.
